Danish Innovation at InterPack 2023

Danish companies are in a class of their own when it comes to sustainability and innovation in packaging solutions, and Interpack is an ideal showcase to show the world what Denmark has to offer.
Whether it is recyclable or compostable packaging, or production lines that last year after year due to quality and reliability, sustainability and innovation are the headlines of the Danish strengths in packaging solutions.

This will also be the focal point at Interpack 2023 in Düsseldorf, May 4th to 10th. “Denmark is a world leader when it comes to sustainability and innovative solutions in packaging, and this is one of the things that Danish exhibitors will showcase at Interpack,” says Sandra Ladefoged, Head of Food Tech at Danish Export Association, who brings ten exhibitors at the Pavilion of Denmark, which is supported by the Trade Council in Denmark.

Fiber trays to replace plastic
One of the Danish exhibitors at Interpack is VARO, which excels in sustainable packaging solutions. With
specialized machines that can handle a little bit of everything in packaging, VARO will showcase its solutions on the German market, where sorting, reusing and recycling have been very important for many years. Therefore, the machine that can produce biodegradable fiber trays to replace the plastic trays currently used to package many of our food products is one of the things VARO’s subsidiary CAMPEN Machinery will be promoting.
“The Airlaid technology that we use is actually 40 years old, and 20 years ago we started making the first
fiber trays. But it is only in the last few years that we see that it is starting to gain ground, and we will use
Interpack to showcase the trays,” says Senior Airlaid Specialist Jens Erik Thordahl.
Another of VARO’s solutions that also revolves around the idea of less waste and less CO2 is a packaging
machine that can make packages out of just one piece of cardboard and that does not use any more
cardboard than is actually needed. This minimizes packaging waste and optimizes transport space by
reducing the amount of air transported in oversized cardboard boxes.

Crazy world record attempt
Interpack will also offer some speed and excitement if you drop by the QUPAQ stand. The company, which manufactures tray dispensers for the food industry, is coming to Germany with the aim of establishing itself.
Indeed, it is a new brand that emerged a year ago following the merger between Carsoe and Intech.
But more importantly, the company will demonstrate how innovation allows them to optimize their machines and ensure solutions, that are reliable day after day, year after year.
This is happening with a rather spectacular record attempt – live on the exhibition stand. While tray
dispensers normally run at a speed of between 50 and 60 per minute, QUPAQ has been working behind the scenes on a specially tuned machine that will attempt to set a world record and spit out 1000 trays in one minute.
“It’s a bit crazy, but we want to use the record attempt to focus on innovation and discuss what the industry needs to improve. Speed is not really a parameter in itself for us, but this is about reliability, which is our core value both in products and in our business in general. It will be a severe stress test of our tools, so it must show that we have a reliable product with the reliability you can expect as a customer with us,” says Digital Marketing Manager, Jesper Johansen from QUPAQ.
