The European Union (EU) will be hosting its European Dairy, Olive Oil and Table Olives Webinar in Singapore on 18 March 2021, Thursday from 3.30pm – 5.30pm (GMT +8). Targeted at F&B importers, distributors, retailers as well as restaurants and hotels, the webinar will spotlight the EU’s ‘More Than Food’ campaign. The campaign spotlights how agricultural products from the EU are about much more than just enjoying food and beverages, but also about offering safe, high-quality and sustainable ingredients for consumers across the globe.

The webinar keynote will be delivered by Ms Justyna Lasik, Head of Economic and Trade Section, European Union Delegation to Singapore. The EU is Singapore’s fourth largest goods trading partner while Singapore is the EU’s second largest goods trading partner in ASEAN. Bilateral trade in goods is valued at more than €41 billion in 2020 (S$65.6 billion). Ms Lasik will present the EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (EUSFTA), and explain its concrete benefits for trade relations between the EU and Singapore in the food and beverage sector.

Renowned Chef-Restaurateur Mr Beppe De Vitto of ilLido Group will highlight the advantages of importing EU food products. He will specifically emphasise the characteristics of PDO and PGI products, which represent the excellence of the EU’s agricultural food production, and how they are both the result of a unique combination of human and environmental factors, characteristic of a specific territory.

The webinar will also explore other key benefits of the EUSFTA for Singapore and ASEAN markets for dairy products, covered by Ms Ary Taoubi, who leads the Restaurant & Hotel Channels at Classic Fine Foods. Lastly, Mr Gabriel Vigil, Head of Sector Olive Oil at the European Commission will present about the marketing standards of EU olive oil and how its quality is ensured.

“The comprehensive FTA in force between the EU and Singapore provides great opportunities for the agri-food sector and strengthens our bilateral economic and commercial ties. With the EU’s 140 Geographical Indications registered in Singapore, consumers can enjoy and more easily recognise a wide range of authentic and high-quality European agri-food products”, says Ms Justyna Lasik, Head of the Economic and Trade Section of the European Union Delegation to Singapore.
“Our mission is to source and bring exceptional ingredients and unique gourmet products to our customers. As demand for dairy in the ASEAN market is set to surge over the next decade, this represents a growing opportunity in this area. With the EUSFTA signed in 2019, it has opened the gates for more EU products and brands to enter the market, which I will be sharing more in the webinar,” said Ms Ary Taoubi, Channel Manager, Classic Fine Foods.
“Across all our collection of restaurants and bars, we are inspired by ingredients, techniques and producers. It is important for us to source responsibly and artisanally, because that undeniable quality from PDO and PGI-certified products translates into the final dish. I look forward to sharing more in-depth information on PDO and PGI certified products in the webinar,” said Mr Beppe De Vito, Chef-Restaurateur, ilLido Group.
