Iran agrofood 2021: A fresh start for the Iran business

28th International Trade Show, the Iran agrofood 2021, will take place from 22 – 25 September 2021 at the Tehran International Permanent Fairgrounds

fairtrade, the German exhibition specialists and their Iranian partners Palar Samaneh have been organising Iran agrofood since 1994. With 40,000+ trade visitors and 1,400+ exhibitors from 30+ countries in years like 2016 to 2018 and its decades-long success story, this professional international trade show is the most important agrofood platform for valuable business contacts for Iran and its neighbouring countries. With its four dedicated partial fairs Iran agro, Iran food + bev tec, Iran food ingredients and Iran food + hospitality, Iran agrofood covers the entire process chain from field to fork.

For the 2021 edition, Joe Biden’s election as President of the USA could now open up new perspectives for doing business with Iran. In a recent guest commentary on CNN, he gave detailed explanations: “I will offer Tehran a credible path back to diplomacy. If Iran returns to strict compliance with the nuclear deal, the United States would rejoin the agreement as a starting point for follow-on negotiations. With our allies, we will work to strengthen and extend the nuclear deal’s provisions, while also addressing other issues of concern. … I will also take steps to make sure US sanctions do not hinder Iran’s fight against Covid-19.”

If appropriate agreements are reached, sanctions could be reduced or even eliminated altogether. Financial transactions could be re-established within the usual framework. This could mark a fresh start for the Iran business for the exhibitors at Iran agrofood 2021.

Iran is one of the largest sales markets for food & beverage technology and food ingredients in the Middle East

According to VDMA, Iranian imports of food processing and packaging machinery amounted to €193 million in 2019, down from €297 million in 2018. There is a good chance that from 2021 onwards, these imports will gradually return to the levels of 2014 to 2018, when annual imports were as high as €341 million, making Iran the second largest importer in the Middle East.

With 85 million inhabitants, Iran has long been the  largest  food  market  in the Middle East. Expenditure in the F&B sector is growing steadily, and F&B production is by far the largest segment of the Iranian processing industry. Accordingly, the demand for food and beverage ingredients is rising continuously.
