Concours Mondial de Bruxelles brings 50 experts to Sicily to judge the best sweet and fortified wines of the world
Since this year Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (CMB) as one of the most important wine competitions in the world has split into four different sessions for red and white wines, rosés, sparklings and sweet and fortified wines. As the last one in this 2022 row CMB sweet and fortified wines session will take place in Marsala from September 20 – 23.
Western Sicily’s iconic destination epitomizes the values associated with sweet and fortified wines. It was therefore only natural that the organizers of the first dedicated session for these styles did choose the region to host the competition. The deadline for entries is August 15.
As about 60% of the CMB tasters are journalists, the aim of this session is to direct media attention towards these specific wines, especially the bountiful array of sweet, fortified and noble rot wines from Sicily such as Marsala, Passito de Pantelleria, Malvasia delle Lipari, Moscato di Noto and DOC wines made from Zibbibo and Malvasia – and make them compete with the best wines of that kind in the world.
