Host 2023 starts tomorrow: one of the most dynamic editions under the banner of sustainable innovation

  • HostMilano is back with numbers similar to the 2019 ones: more than 2,100 exhibitors, 40% of whom are international from 50 countries, and more than 700 highly profiled top buyers from 75 countries 
  • Underlining the international aspect of it, present at the ribbon cutting ceremony tomorrow at 11 a.m. will be the President of the ICE-ITA Agency, Matteo Zoppas, along with Italian and foreign authorities

Less than twenty-four hours to go before the ribbon-cutting ceremony of Host 2023, at fieramilano in Rho which will take place from Friday, 13 October, to Tuesday, 17 October. Among the industry operators, there is great anticipation for a 43rd edition that will be on the starting line with numbers comparable to those of the year 2019, reconfirming to the markets the importance of the global B2B platform of reference for all of the professional hospitality, out-of-home, retail and contract segments.

It is data and facts that prove the effectiveness of the HostMilano concept: More than 2,100 exhibitors, of which 40% hailing from 50 different countries. In addition to Italy, the top five countries in terms of exhibitor numbers include Germany, Spain, France and the United States, followed closely by Switzerland, the Netherlands and Portugal, in addition to Turkey and China. The participating companies also see HostMilano as an opportunity to do business the world over: they will meet more than 700 highly profiled top buyers from 75 countries hailing from all continents.

The ever-increasing international aspect of the expo will be well visible thanks to the participation – during the opening ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Smart Label area in Pavillion 6/10 – of Matteo Zoppas, President of the ICE-ITA Agency, as well as government representatives and local authorities ranging from the City of Milan to the Lombardy Region as well as a large delegation of consuls from numerous foreign countries.  

A first day that gets right into the swing of things

After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the event will kick off immediately with an in-depth coverage of the most interesting emerging trends, with contributions from star chefs and multi-decorated pastry chefs, mixologists and baristas, as well as influential experts and academics. 

Just to name a few, ChocolateCulture@Host23 will debut in this occasion. It is the first B2B event dedicated to the culture of chocolate with a team of experts led by maître chocolatier Davide Comaschi, featuring right on the first day master classes by masters such as Matteo Beluffi, Ciro Fontanesi, Alberto Simionato and Fulvio Vailati, and a conversation with Bocconi University professor and luxury hospitality expert Magda Antonioli.

In the long-awaited return of Luxury Pastry in the World curated by Iginio Massari, the day after the master of masters will host top pastry chefs Marta Boccanera, Fabrizio Galla, Vincenzo Santoro, Bilena Settepani and Felice Venanzi, while star chef Andrea Ribaldone will be present at the Parmacotto stand with his show cooking.

At the end of the day there will be the Smart Label – Host Innovation Award award ceremony in collaboration with POLI.design and under the patronage of ADI – Association for Industrial Design, which will be held at 5 p.m. at the Smart Label Area in Pavillion 6/10, where it will also be possible to touch firsthand i 26 award-winning products, chosen from as many as 157 nominations from Italy and abroad. Still on the subject of design in collaboration with POLI.design, there will be a premiere also for the Design Talks event: tomorrow introducing the topic of hospitality and reception heading towards new tourism.

Trend previews to anticipate markets

From artificial intelligence to robotics, new materials that can be reused or recycled with a view to the circular economy, solutions for maximum energy and water savings, design that uses big data to create increasingly experiential and multisensory formats and layouts: this will be an edition under the banner ofsustainable innovation and digital transition, anticipating the needs of a reviving market and reflecting this vibrancy both in its events and in the aisles and business meetings.

According to data from Export Planning, the world trade of the supply chains represented at HostMilano reached a new high of 178.3 billion euros in 2022, at levels well above the pre-pandemic ones: 38 percentage points higher than 2019. food service equipment in the narrow sense is estimated by Future Market Insights to be about $44 billion ( $76 billion in 2032, +5.6 percent average) to which Made in Italy contributes more than 10 percent (€4.6 billion, data from  ANIMA Assofoodtec Study Office).
