Kurt Josef Zalto awarded Red Dot Award 2022 for Product Design

After the “Iconic Award: Innovative Interior”, Josephinenhütte has now received its second award this year for its hand-blown glass collection “Josephine”: the Red Dot Design Award. Professor Dr. Peter Zec, with around 6,000 entries, is considered one of the largest and most prestigious awards in the international design world. The coveted seal of quality is only awarded to products that have an excellent design. The excellent design of the “Josephine” was penned by Kurt Josef Zalto, one of the most well-known glass designers of our time.

“This year, our international jury had a considerable number of products to evaluate, because once again a maximum number of companies and design studios submitted to the professional judgment of our experts,” says Professor Dr. Peter Zec to the Josephinenhütte. “In an evaluation process lasting several days, the submissions from all over the world were examined in detail and judged according to design quality and degree of innovation. The Josephine glass collection was able to assert itself in such a strong field of participants and this is a testament to the exceptional quality!”

“This award is another accolade for the outstanding glass design of my business partner Kurt Josef Zalto,” says Marcus Meyer, CEO of Josephinenhütte. Kurt Josef Zalto has been studying the influence of shapes and materials on the taste of wine for decades. The iconic glass design of the “Josephine” is therefore no coincidence, but the consistent further development of the optimal glass shape for enjoying wine. “We are very proud that our glass collection is so well received internationally. And that is not only due to the extraordinary design, but above all to the function of the glass. Kurt created the glass with the characteristic bend so that the aromas of the wine can develop optimally. I really liked the sentence of a well-known sommelier recently: “The “Josephine” is so delicate that it shows a wine completely naked.” This also coincides with the opinion of many winegrowers. They reflect to us that their wines are presented in our glasses precisely, authentically and without makeup. And that is exactly our claim: We put a lot of heart and soul into every single glass, so that every touch becomes an extraordinary, sensory experience.”
