adapa Group Introduces EcoString Bag as a Sustainable Alternative to Drawstring Bags

adapa Group, a leading flexible packaging solutions company in Europe, is revolutionizing the classic drawstring bag for hygiene and cosmetic products with the introduction of the enhanced EcoString bag. This innovative bag contains 80% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content, making it a more sustainable choice compared to regular drawstring bags. The EcoString bag is a true mono-material solution, with both the bag and the drawstring made of easily printable polyethylene, enabling full recyclability and the use of recycled material.

The circular economy for packaging requires the closing of product loops through recyclability and the use of recycled materials. adapa’s EcoString bags meet these requirements, as they are made from 80% mechanically recycled post-consumer recyclate (PCR) and are fully recyclable due to their mono-material composition of polyethylene (PE). The traditional viscose drawstring is replaced with a plastic strap while maintaining its functionality. This mono-material packaging eliminates the need for component separation during recycling, further enhancing recyclability. With 80% PCR content, adapa’s EcoString bags contribute to the circular economy by closing the loop.

adapa’s innovative packaging is available as prefabricated bags with holes, simplifying order picking processes. These bags are designed with an economical use of materials, featuring film thicknesses as thin as 30 µm, making them among the thinnest products in the market segment. The production of the drawstring also prioritizes resource conservation by utilizing edge trimmings from bag production. EcoString bags can be printed in up to 10 colors, offering ample space for print communication on both the bag and the drawstring. With their individual matte or glossy finish, these bags provide an aesthetically pleasing appearance at the point of sale, making them an attractive choice for conscious consumers.

adapa Group upholds the highest standards of quality and safety. As part of its commitment to sustainability and resource conservation, the company seeks innovative solutions to expand the use of PCR materials. With the EcoString bag, adapa successfully addresses these challenges in the drawstring bag segment. The utilization of high-quality PCR materials is ensured through the expertise of adapa’s in-house PS Polymer Sourcing. Additionally, stringent quality controls and external laboratory checks guarantee the highest product safety for adapa’s new generation of bags with 80% PCR content. Joanna Herbst, Product Manager Converting at adapa, affirms, “We leverage our extensive experience in producing EcoString bags, as well as our expertise in sustainability and the requirements of the hygiene industry. Through regular quality controls and external laboratory checks, adapa ensures the highest product safety for our new generation of bags with 80% PCR content.”

adapa Group continues to lead the way in providing sustainable packaging solutions, and the introduction of the EcoString bag reinforces its commitment to environmental stewardship and resource conservation.
